Gematria started in Hebrew in biblical times and was later adopted by other cultures in other languages. An example of this use is Roman numerals which are still in use today. Numerology, as a general definition is the study of numbers. In biblical terms, numerology is the study of how numbers used in scriptures have a symbolic meaning. For example, the twelve disciples, twelve tribes of Israel, and twelve apostles. This type of coding practice was thought to be first used back in the 8th century BC. Since then, it has been adopted by the Jewish culture and similar variations have been used in the Greeks isopsephy, Arabic abjad numerals, and English gematria. By convention, the letter E is transliterated to the Hebrew letter Heh (5) like the H. The letter C is transliterated to the Hebrew letter Cheth (8). The letters U and W are transliterated like the V to the Vav (6), and the letters J and Y are transliterated like the I to the Hebrew letter Yod (10). The letter F is transliterated to the Hebrew letter Peh (80) like the P.
